Niabi Zoo, Savings and Zoo Park Description for 2024

Niabi Zoo, which was first named The McLain's Wild Animal Farm, first opened its doors back in 1959. However, it was later named The McLain Zoo. In 1963, Mrs. Charles Deer Wiman bought the farm as well as extra land. She then sold the land to Rock Island County who still runs the Niabi Zoo. The new name, Niabi, comes from the Native American Osage Nation language and actually means, “young deer spared by the hunter.” The zoo now has many different animal attractions as well as a petting zoo for anyone to enjoy. It also holds different events and programs which includes breakfast with the animals and many calendar events. There are also educational programs such as teachers resources and field trips to the zoo.
